Miranda O’Connell
Founder and Principal Copywriter
With 27 years in the communications industry, Miranda established The Word Garden in 2004 in response to client demand for her continuing results-driven approach to copywriting.
Writing runs deep in Miranda’s family. Her father was a journalist and editor and she began working with him very early in her career. Other family members include three published authors and a grandmother who wrote saucy romantic novels under a nom de plume! It was Miranda’s father who taught her to plant the right words in the right places if she was to get results from her writing. The Word Garden is dedicated to him.
Miranda’s writing and communications career spans London and Sydney where she has worked at some of the largest public relations and marketing communications firms.
In Sydney, Miranda headed up the Australasian arm of the UK’s largest integrated marketing agency Haygarth Group, before moving into copywriting full time. Her writing experience extends from major corporates including telco, IT, insurance and financial institutions, to some of the world's largest FMCG brands.
Working with both agencies and brands directly, her portfolio includes Unilever (Continental, Dove, Lynx, Rexona, Omo, Bushell’s Tea Lipton’s Tea), Mars Confectionery (Dove, M&Ms, Bounty, Mars, Twix, & Mars Ice Cream range), Optus, Nortel Networks, UNSW, Nestle, Las Vegas Tourism, Uniworld Cruises, Kellogg, Benson & Hedges, Silk Cut, Dilmah Tea, Belaroma Coffee, AA Insurance, International Distillers & Vintners, Tesco, Nokia, Nikon and more.
